A New Year Resolve

Thinking about the new year and the changes I want to make.. things to accomplish and so on. There are endless tasks in the garden as well.. Today I looked through an older magazine that i've kept from Domino and found this lovely, illuminated image of a garden party. I think this would be the perfect setting in which to celebrate the passing of another year. Cheers everyone to 2013, may it be wonderful for all of you.

A Winter Visit

We stopped by my cousin's little farm a few days before Christmas. They have 3 different types of greens growing this winter. Mustard, cabbage and my favorite, collards. Hoping you all are having happy holidays so far. Back soon with more gardenrooms.

Austin Once More

Visiting Austin again, a lovely time was had by all. Here are a few photos of our stay at the San Jose Hotel and the St. Cecilia, both owned by Liz Lambert. By The Beach

I've been working on a garden by the beach in San Francisco. The weather has been beautiful and I feel lucky to be here this week. We stopped by Mollusk Surf shop after work on Sunday for a little Xmas gift. I'm always awed by their display and selection of boards and everything surf related. Back soon with before and after photos of this adorable garden space.

Curb Appeal

I love this first image from cottages & bungalows so much. It inspired me to take some photos of bungalows in our neighborhood with that same kind of curb appeal. Hope you're all enjoying the weekend !

Gingerbread Cookies

gingerbread cookies

1 cup butter, 1 cup sugar (i used brown sugar), 1 egg, 1 cup molasses, 2 tablespoons vinegar, 5 cups sifted white flour, 1 1/2 teaspoon soda, 3 teaspoons ginger, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon ground cloves.

cream butter and sugar, beat in the egg, molasses and vinegar. sift together the dry ingredients. blend into batter. chill at least 3 hours.

roll dough out to 1/8 inch thick on lightly floured board (i ended up with some white gingerman) cut into shapes. place one inch apart on greased cookie sheet and decorate with icing. yum.

bake at 375 for 5 to 6 minutes and cool slighty then move to rack. makes about 3 dozen ginger bread.

 These are wonderful winter flowering shrubs and bulbs. Even the iris are scented !
