California Living

What an appropriate title for my post today.. I'm in the process of relocating from California to Oregon. I thought it was going to be the East Coast but things change and being flexible is one of my strong suits. I'll still be designing gardens in the Bay Area but excitingly, also in Portland. Recently Elaine at California Living kindly gave me an award for having a stylish blog, thank you Elaine. Someone had given her one and in the blogging world it's like tag. I've been asked to tell you 7 things about myself and then tag 15 blogs that I've discovered. I just mentioned the first a few things and now here are a few more. I have 3 lovely daughters that were raised in San Francisco, 2 are in college and 1 will be attending college this Fall. My life happily centered around them as well as designing gardens for children over the last several years. It's now time for 'me' again and of course more gardening. I love all sports.. cooking, sewing and crafting are other passions I have. Playing my guitar in the evenings is a wonderful way to pass the time and relax. I adore all animals. I'm in love with a 'boy' I went to high school with. On New Year's Eve 2010, he built a fire and at Midnight in the most romantic way gave me a beautiful ring. We were staying at Mankas in Inverness. That's the most I've said 'that's not about gardening' since beginnings this blog in 2007 ha.. Thank you all for reading gardenrooms and now here are only some of my favorite blogs.

Violets are one of my favorite flowers. Reading about them I discovered their secret, they self pollinate. Viola Odorata has a faint scent and was the symbol of classical Athens, becoming popular later with the perfume industry. The top two images are from a 1994 Living magazine. I took the photo of the fragrant purple violet after planting some violets in Victoria's back garden. Flower meanings from The Language of Flowers. I hope you will plant this lovely Spring flower.
