i mentioned this last year as well, but San Francisco State University has launched a program called The Great Sunflower Project. It's a community science project that's goal is to ascertain where bees are doing poorly and how the pollination of our gardens and wild flowers are being affected. They are specifically studing pollination in community gardens. They'll send you native sunflower seeds to plant and twice a month they're asking you to record how long it takes 5 bees to visit one flower on your plant. For more information and or to participate go to
greatsunflower.org. I was also over at the blog
digginfood today and there are some wonderful photos and an interesting post about bees & honey.
