Long before this generation of young farmers, I've felt a profound connection to growing your own food. Small family farms are popping up all over the country due to a grass roots movement if you will, of a connectedness to the earth. There's a huge demand for locally grown healthy vegetables and fruits, even herbs. College graduates with degrees in environmental studies and or biology are farming now. Second, third & fourth generation farmers- after finishing their degrees are coming back due to the enthusiasm and idealism of farming. They bring a newness and appreciation of food that might somehow seem lost only twenty years earlier. While they can't get rich farming, they are their own bosses and have 'other' jobs to compensate their earnings. I applaud them and their commitment to making the food we eat better.
