This garden was featured in Domino magazine, March of 2006. I really like the modern feel of it. The owners didn't know anything about plants but wanted a garden that mirrored their interior aesthetic. Below are photos and text of how they acheived this look. click on images to enlarge.

San Francisco State University has just launched a program called The Great Sunflower Project. It's a community science project that's goal is to ascertain where bees are doing poorly and how the pollination of our gardens and wild flowers are being affected. They are specifically studing pollination in community gardens. They'll send you native sunflower seeds to plant and twice a month they're asking you to record how long it takes 5 bees to visit one flower on your plant.
