Story Book Garden

Right out of a vintage story book, this charming sandstone cottage in Scotland was built on the southwest coast 150 years ago. The owner & artist Rosie Brown, has a fantastic online shop (Papa Stour) that sells Scottish contemporary crafts. images domino- 2006.Sc0001a98f

Modern in the Garden

These photos from Metropolitan Home are a great example of what you can do in an Urban environment with a lot of space. I love the plants that were chosen to compliment the furniture and fabric. Makes for a very simple and clean outdoor space.Sc00433f56_2

Defining Your Style

I've been thinking about how personal our interiors are and how we define them. The same can be true in a garden. Next week I'll post photos of different styles for outdoor rooms, modern, vintage and country gardens. In the meantime, I hope that you have a great weekend. images cote est.

Hardenbergia

This is one of my favorite vines native to Australia. Hardenbergia is a small genus in the family of leguminous, commonly known as Australian lilac. During the winter this vine blooms clusters of lovely small violet purple flowers and will continue to bloom until early spring. Plant in the sun and well drained soil, it tends to be drought tolerant when established and will take afternoon filtered light. first image from wikipedia and bottom image I took in a garden.

Les Silversterklause

In the region of Appenzell Switzerland, there is a tradition still played out by the inhabitants of this jewel of a landscape. This custom was integrated and reformed by Pope Gregory in 1582, the inhabitant's celebrate Saint Sylvestre on the thirteenth day of January. In the valley, Klause groups of all ages meet, wearing their traditional costumes made from the woods and nature of their surroundings. They arrive ringing their bells and singing intended to drive out the evil spirit of winter. images from cote est. Sc00027f0f_2

Red Brick

We don't have many buildings in the Bay Area made with brick because of earthquakes, so I always admire this material when I see it. Here are a few lovely examples from British house & garden. I hope you enjoy.Sc0007a169

Scented Rose & Snowball Viburnum

A client of mine gave me these images from a garden magazine as examples of the colors and type of plants she would like to have in her back garden. I think they're beautiful and wanted to share.
