The Little Things

I always pay attention to the little things in a garden. The crevices in a pathway or wall & disgarded planters. Sedums and groundcovers are wonderful fillers for that. I also like to group stones together, soften corners and use a lot of gravel. Here a few examples of paying attention to the little things and the beauty it brings. images vogue & house and garden. Favorite

This is my favorite ad by Kate Spade. In fact, I've showed it to so many clients over the past few years, it looks a little like it was folded and put in a pocket or something... hmmm it was. I love the gravel path right through the the yard with the stones outlining it.

Lavateras

This fast growing bloomer is often called tree mallow. The solitary blooms of the Lavateras are similar to Hollyhocks, fabulous and fluted. They come in colors from white to rosy purple. My favorites are the pink & light purple ones. There are annual and perennial varieties. They flower in the summer & fall with repeat blooms. In mild coastal regions, it remains a nearly ever-blooming perrenial. Great for cut flowers, borders or to fill in corners of your garden. Plant in full sun to part shade. Their spread is from 2-6 feet depending on the variety. image and info from perrenials for sun. Sc00004d41

These photos are from the new Domino magazine of North Carolina decorator, Barrie Benson's ranch style house & garden. I really like how family friendly they designed the garden, you can actually bring the outdoors right inside.
